Our Background Story

“Emotions that go unspoken will never die.

They are still alive and will surface later in more hideous ways.

We know that unspoken emotions do not die because people who have experienced trauma would simply recover and live pleased and fulfilling lives. Instead, we know this is not the case, and trauma becomes ‘stuck.’

In addition, the flippant notion that “time heals” is only true when sentiments can be addressed – losses suffered – and truth accepted; otherwise, the past will continue to replay itself in unconscious ways in the present. The unconscious, after all, has no idea of time. Unexpressed emotions can express themselves in a variety of ways and manifest in an unlimited number of real behaviours or presentations. These are feelings that cannot be acknowledged out of fear of their impact on the psyche. I’m reminded of a line from a Woody Allen movie when a guy declares, “I never feel angry…. I develop a tumor in its place..

Becoming irritated or anxious when people inquire about your feelings.

Why Need Feel Free Therapy Today?

“Sometimes, a lot of individuals react quickly to the emotion of fury. When we delve a little further, we quickly discover that their underlying feelings may be something like fear, grief, and/or disappointment. If you’re experiencing a particularly strong reaction of anger, try to take a step back to understand what is underlying the anger. It’s crucial that you provide a LOT of grace to yourself while you work through suppressed emotions. Although having a wide range of emotions is normal, it can occasionally feel overpowering. It’s an accomplishment to be completing the work, and you should be quite proud of that. Expressing an emotion doesn’t have to be something outward like slamming a door, yelling into a pillow or even telling someone about it. It can happen entirely in our minds, too. Instead of getting enraged at someone, we have to forget who we’re angry at, forget the story behind it and allow ourselves to truly feel the emotion inside. We can say to ourselves, “I’m really mad, and that’s OK”.
